How to clean and re grease your door latches.
My front door handle latch is worn out over time.
I replaced the worn bracket.
As we were taking apart this door handle we found a little round plate on the inside of the door.
Going back replace the handle in the front and slide it all the way to the back and insert the rear screw first.
Fortunately there are several ways to fix a door that will not latch.
Ground that has frozen under the door may also cause it to not close properly.
Make sure the bent lip of the strike plate is facing the direction in which the door opens.
Every door comes to a time when it will not latch correctly and there are various reasons why.
Sometimes the part that breaks can be too expensive to replace.
Replace the handle and reinsert and tighten the retaining screws.

Step 3 turn the handle over and if necessary reverse the latch nose.
Align the strike plate for the handle against the door jamb and attach with two small screws.
Remove the outside door handle.
Then remove the inside door handle.
If the latch mechanism inside of the door fails or has any issues it may not be able to secure onto the anchor which will result in a door that will not stay closed.
The settling of the house over time can cause the doorjamb or door to become skewed so.
Second thing is the door latches are subject to road debris and can bind.
As you remove the pieces make sure you keep them all together they are pretty small and can disappear quickly.
Remove the handle by taking out the retaining screws usually two located at the top and bottom of the inside handle.
Align the strike plate for the deadbolt pre drill your holes and attach the strike plate to the door jamb with two longer screws for extra reinforcement.
Test to make sure the door handle actuates the latch correctly.
This is a problem as vehicles with doors that do not stay shut are unsafe to drive.
Old door handles rarely break completely.
Damp weather or heat may be warping it.

Then replace the front screw don t forget to position the door seals.
Another symptom of a problem with the door latch.
If the door handle uses locking mechanism test all the ways of locking.
Use your drill and unscrew the screws in the latch as well as the screws on the inside door handle.
Each door set is a little different.
Even usual wear and tear can contribute.
The most common problem with door catches is the failure of the striker to penetrate into the striker plate.
