Pea gravel is easier and more economical to install than other patio materials. Level out with a rake. If you have a concrete patio you may want to cover it in pea gravel. This also compacts it so that the loose pebble stay in place.

Leave inch space between the gravel and the edging to prevent the small stones from spilling. Pour 2 inches of pea gravel and spread evenly. Add pea gravel to your patio.
