So i opted for the big bad super expensive pentair intelliflo variable speed pool pump and now i am starting to have problems.

Since the intelliflo vsp has an internal timer.
Be sure that you have power gong to pump first by checking wires with a volt meter.
If the wires have power and they are properly attached to pump motor and there is no display on the intelliflo screen then it is a bad drive.
